Evoke a Golden State of Mind
ABOUT ME
I am Dr. Shyla Smith, licensed mental health counselor and I am excited to connect with you. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. I attended UCLA for undergraduate and Azusa Pacific University for graduate studies where I earned a degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Family Therapy and Consultative Psychology. I've enjoyed wonderful life experiences with opportunities to work in Washington and New York City where I enhance my training with a pre-doctoral and post-doctoral emphasis in Health Psychology.
I thrive from learning, collaborating, and connecting with others and the entire world that surrounds me. When I am not working, I am spoiling my Shih-Poo fur baby, spending time with family and friends, reading, watching tv, attending concerts, beaching, and hiking.
MY APPROACH
I am passionate about demystifying mental health and being an advocate for clients. I believe in providing unique and personalized goals through client centered care and collaboration. My approach is integrative and I encourage holistic care that mends mental, physical, social, environmental, and spiritual health seamlessly. I mainly treat from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic, solution focused, emotion focused therapy, motivational interviewing, exposure and response prevention, and existential modalities. I am also informed by trauma focused, mindfulness, compassion based, strengths based, feedback informed, and cultural sensitivity approaches. I hope to engage with you and facilitate an authentic and meaningful partnership.
ANSWERS TO FAQ'S
1. I am currently accepting new Telehealth clients who reside in California, Washington State and Florida.
2. Telehealth is the practice of enabling technology through audio and video over the internet using your desktop, laptop, tablet, or mobile device between a practitioner in one location and a patient in another location. The patient must live in the state where the practitioner is licensed to provide patient care. (Note: To use a smartphone, you must first download Telehealth by SimplePractice, for iOS /Android in the app store.)
3. You can request a free 15-min consultation with me via online website, email, call, or text. If we are a good match and you are a candidate for virtual care at this time, we will move forward with scheduling.
4.Telehealth and virtual care is not for everyone. I will use my clinical judgment and discretion to determine eligibility and if higher level of care may be needed to ensure you receive the best care possible.
5. I am considered an Out-Of-Network (OON) Provider which means coverage provided by your insurance plan for healthcare services (in this case therapy) received from healthcare providers who are not part of the plan's designated network. These benefits generally include reimbursement for the cost of services obtained outside the network, though there may be limitations or conditions imposed by your plan. Please contact your insurance provider for verification of your out-of-network benefits.
6. Most health insurances offer mental health services benefits, however please contact your insurance company and ask these questions: (1) Do I have OON mental health benefits? (2) What is my OON deductible and has it been met? (3) What is the coverage amount per therapy session? (4) Will telehealth be covered under my OON benefits? (5) How do I submit a claim? (6) How will I be reimbursed?
